Bust of Nefertiti, Egypt

The bust of Nefertiti is 47 cm high and weigh about 20 kilograms. It is made of a limestone core covered with painted stucco layers. Its discovery in 1912, the bust has served as a symbol of the ethereal and elegant queen of the Nile. She is one of the famous historic figures and ideal of female beauty. She was the Great Royal Wife of the Egyptian Pharaoh Akhenaten. Queen Nefertiti was mother-in-law of Pharaoh Tutankhamun.

This sculpture carved from piece of limestone, requires the stone core to be first plastered and then painted. Flesh tones on the face give the bust life. She has no pupil on the left eye. They mention it was never meant to be finish and they use wax temporarily on the eyes, so i guess the wax crumbled and melted.

This face is completely symmetrical and balance.  She wears blue crown and has looped around like horizontal ribbons repeat color in red, blue, green and gold. She wears a necklace with a floral pattern on it.

The proportion of this sculpture is a regular features, long neck and heavy-lidded eyes. If you see in the front side you will see that it has perfect triangle form on her neck to head. Long neck makes balances the tall crown, her cheeks look so high.  Everything is sculpted to perfection. This may reflect "aesthetic ideals of the era" and why her name means “the beautiful woman has come.”
